Strokes of Deception: A Peter Greenaway Film Festival

Greenaway’s films all share an essence of mystery, sexual plesasure, control, violence, humor, to name a few common themes. His painting background provides an artisitic novelty and classical touch. He chooses to portray extreme characters and makes prevalent the ‘man vs woman’ juxtaposition. His attention to landscapes, art and costumes add a lush extravagance. His distinctive style and substance of his work addresses the changing status of the image in the contemporary world making his films worthy of a festival.

THREAD: Women are belittled and seen as powerless but eventually dominate using lust as an avenue to lead men to oblivion where reality isn’t as exquisite as it seems.
